Wicked sordid Dubai
Dubai is a wicked sordid place, according to The Times of the UK, that masterpiece of journalism always at the forefront with hard-hitting well-researched reporting on the latest breaking news. Or, maybe it’s that time of the month when the bored editor looks at his or her spreadsheet to see which employee has not written an article bashing Dubai yet. So this month it was the turn of one Liddle Rod … oops, sorry, that would be Rod Liddle. A fine effort it was too. Mr Little managed to cobble together a full 6 internet pages of stories of adultery, jail sentences for writing a bad check, poor Bangladeshi workers, and so on and so on. Nothing original, just a variation on a theme. We’ve heard all those stories already. Yes, those things happen in Dubai, yes there are many issues to be concerned about. But isn’t The Times a newspaper? Ergo, isn’t it meant to report on news as in new things? This Dubai bashing is getting tiresome. Actually, it was tiresome a long time ago. I’d almost rather read Paris Hilton’s tweetspot about Dubai, or whatever she calls that mobile phone blogging thing … I did say almost.
