Burj Dubai opening date unconfirmed
The Burj Dubai opening date that was “officially” announced today turned out to be a dud report. Which might surprise anyone who has lived in Dubai for less than a day or two. But it’s not the first time that an anonymous comment about the Burj Dubai opening date from the teaboy, or crane driver, or various other random sources, becomes the “official” opening date. It was Construction Week that came out with the follow-up report with the no comment comment from the Burj Dubai developers, Emaar Properties, saying that the “Burj Dubai will open this year as scheduled” (Emaar haven’t given an official opening date). This was also an “exclusive” report. If Construction Week comes from the same publication stable as Arabian Business, one could be forgiven for having the cynical view that this was the result of AB and CW reporters sitting hunched over the coffee table this morning trying to figure out a clever way of getting more interest in their publications.
